An Introduction to the World

Ortelius World Map
Photo is in the public domain.

Journeys on planet Earth.  I don't travel much but I do like to read about other countries and imagine how it would be to live there.  With the internet it's now possible to go virtually anywhere and talk to anyone anywhere who uses the internet.

Every week I will be posting links to websites having to do with a single country.  I'll make a few comments and then leave the rest for the reader to check out.  I've decided to restrict my use of pictures to those found at Wikipedia because they are for the most part Creative Commons.  I won't be using anything that is copyright not for fair use.  More information about that at the Wikipedia site.

To begin, there are a multitude of wonderful websites that provide comprehensive information about countries.  Below are links to ones that I have used:

National Geographic
Virtual Tourist
CIA - The World Factbook
(I don't think you'll end up on a list somewhere for stopping by.)

Future links will be a bit more varied.

Anyway, browse away.  Feel free to comment or suggest other sites or give permission to use a photo.  Not all comments will be posted though.  And what's to come?  Countries of the world, A - Z, a Planetary Tour.  The first week, starting tomorrow, will be about Afghanistan.

Enjoy.
